Judge John C. Cherundolo Opens Cherundolo Law Firm

Nationally-recognized trial lawyer and former Acting New York State Supreme Court Justice, Hon. John C. Cherundolo, announces the formation of his new private practice, Cherundolo Law Firm, PLLC. He is admitted to practice in New York State and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York.
As a sustaining fellow in an elite group of nationally-known trial advocates, Judge Cherundolo brings a wealth of experience to his practice. As lead trial counsel, he has won many of the largest verdicts in Upstate New York, and has been involved in complex cases throughout the Northeast United States. Judge Cherundolo will be focusing his practice on a variety of tort-based litigation matters, such as medical malpractice, product liability, brain injuries, birth defects, auto accidents, and wrongful deaths.
In 2006, Judge Cherundolo was appointed to Acting Justice of the Onondaga County Supreme Court in the 5th Judicial District of New York as well as Judge of the New York Court of Claims. While in those roles, he presided over a prodigious trial calendar that covered a wide array of substantive and procedural aspects of jurisprudence, and wrote many decisions of significance to New York.
While on the bench, Judge Cherundolo was assigned to handle various civil caseloads in state Supreme Court. He played an extremely integral part in the multiple decisions involving legal disputes surrounding the development and expansion of Carousel Center and Destiny USA. Judge Cherundolo left the bench in March 2013 to return to private practice. Before joining the bench, Judge Cherundolo gained national prominence as a top trial lawyer by winning large and complex cases throughout the country. In 1983, he founded Cherundolo, Bottar & Leone, P.C., focusing on litigation in the areas of medical malpractice, product liability, workplace accidents, automobile and aviation matters.
Judge Cherundolo is a longtime resident of Central New York. He is a graduate of Syracuse University College of Law (1973) and a graduate from Temple University School of Law (LLM, 2009). He received an M.P.A. from Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs (1972), and his B.A. from the Syracuse University College of Arts and Sciences (1970). He is an honorary member of the Board of Advisors at the Syracuse University College of Law.
Judge Cherundolo is one of the profession's best-known speakers, speaking regularly at New York State Academy conferences and local bar association continuing education legal seminars designed to teach other attorneys about advanced skill development and strategy in trial practice. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at Syracuse University College of Law for many years where he teaches courses in Advanced Torts and other Trial relevant courses, and has been a major force behind the Law School's nationally recognized competitive trial teams. Judge Cherundolo recently sat as Chair of the Syracuse University Athletic Department Board of Directors, and is a member of the Board of the Syracuse Football Alumni Club.
Judge Cherundolo is a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and formerly served as the State Chair; he is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers; he is a Fellow of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum; he is a fellow of the Prestigious Litigation Counsel of America; he has been consistently named in Best Lawyers in America for over decade before ascending to the Bench; he has been named in Who's Who in American Law; he is a former State delegate of the American Trial Lawyers Association, and he has served as President of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association; he is a former member of the Presidents' Council of the American Association of Justice; he is a former Dean of the New York Trial Lawyers Institute; he served as the Chair of the Steering Committee of the Alliance of Consumer Rights; he served as State Coordinator for the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice; he is a Fellow of the American Board of Trial Advocates and currently serves as the Central New York Chapter's representative to the Board of Directors; and, he is a founding member of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers.
